Translation quality assessment has long been a source of contention. Previous efforts at standardization have helped, but have ultimately fallen short of expectations. More recently, TAUS and the European Union-funded QT21 project collaborated to release a joint framework for analytic quality assessment of translations. Known as Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM), it is currently being standardized within ASTM International, with a focus on a subset used in TAUS DQF. DQF-MQM provides an industry-focused way to identify and categorize translation errors and relate them to stakeholder requirements for translation quality.

In this webinar, we will describe the standard and its component and discuss efforts in the standard to make quality assessment more reliable and to ensure the validity of the results. We will close with a discussion of the market importance of this forthcoming standard and plans to develop industry-specific metrics.
